The moped hiatus has been broken by this irresistible spanish beauty.

Coming to realize how much more work that I actually need to do to her…..

The wheels are bent and cracked + repaired again and again.  They also have the freewheel built into the actual casting of the wheels, making them truly unique to the Barcelona model.

 * The Metra 50cc ( with current gearing of 13×30 ) does not allow for hitting the powerband in 3rd, let alone shifting into 4th…….

* It SHOULD climb hills with ease right?  I mean it has gears, a real clutch and a nice 50cc kit on it?   WRONG

* I had to push it half a mile up the last hill to my house for fear of seizing it up in 1st gear for 2 miles…

Then there is just the basic cosmetics with the seat, side covers, and getting a functioning tail light….  ( these things did not come with one or a spot to wire one up on the controls )

The end result of which is scouring foreign ebay for replacement parts, wheels, etc.  To which my deep depths of lurking and internet stalkery found a set of wheels from a monza that matched mine ( san free wheel ) and were not bid on yet with 1 day left….  Starting bit? 1 euro!!!

OK, so I got extra excited, I mean didnt sleep on this or at all just to get them.  The seller spoke english, accepted paypal, would ship DHL worldwide and only for 30 Euro!!!!!!

I won these, for 26 Euro + the 30 to ship em = 75$ complete puch monza wheels!

So these arrived 19 days later from Germany

Then there was the sprockets…..  I had a 30T rear from the Barcelona and a 44T rear on the new ones with no others even close stateside or otherwise that were flat/right dimentions/bolt pattern….

After measuring and scouring Treats again, I found a suitable solution.

Puch Monza sprockets =

45mm ID

50mm center to center 5 bolt patern

Garelli sprockets =

43mm ID

4 bolt with enough room to drill for Monza holes

And

The wizard worked his magic!   Now I have to tune this thing with gearing and figure out how to make the freewheel work.

So to end this one, back to work, back to tune and back to what I am have been putting off mopeds long enough doing.

LED 12v tail light/brake light

Brake lights have always been a problem when modifying a stock moped.  At least I have had no luck ( and not being a super electrical engineer ) getting a moped with 6v points system to not die when having a brake light hooked up.

Since moving to 12v on most of my mopeds, I have kind of forgot about them.  Reverting back to the old hand signals/hope people know what hand signals mean behind me technique.

But…. NO LONGER!  All these mopeds now have running tails and brake lights because of the powerdynamo’s awesome design and voltage regulator that come with it.

Buy these at Treats!

These ebay LED trailer marker lights are the best and brightest when you have a 12v regulated system.

I wanted to keep the original monza tail light, because of the Barcelona / Espania markings on the actual lens, so I cut one of the marker lights to fit the housing.

As you can see.  Just hooked up to a 12v battery, they are bright!

Now I have to re-fiberglass the seat, play with the front suspension and get the exhaust reworked.

Everyone should spend at least a few days absorbing this information.

It is not just for the serious racers, or the serious tuners, or the fabricators. I think that in the real world applications, you could have exactly what you want out of a moto/moped style wise and not have to sacrifice street ride or track ride.

Take some time to look this over and experiment

Suspension/dampening/geometry etc….

I have been researching everything since I  may have one of the last moped projects in my hands sometime this summer thanks to the moped wizard

The only thing that has been going on for the last couple weeks is as follows :

1 – Birthday ( 33 ) on april 3

2 – Birthday tattoo, continuing the thigh/knee piece.   I have been on a pants strike for 2 weeks because the back of my knee refuses to heal right 😦

3 – Laser removal session number 2.  Fuck that, YES it does hurt more than getting tattooed and they limit you to an hour and 1/2 of time because of how much damage it does to your body.   I stayed for an hour….  Not fun at all, but awesome end result

4 – Mike Naz has started hacking up a frame for me and mocking up new motor mount configurations and swingarm combos.  This for the watercooled GR2 50cc Moby motor

5 –  Hanging out with amazing tattoo artists and being taught how to properly watercolor for the application of custom tattoo flashy shit.  Awesome!

and last, another addition to the collection, just for the haters…. always for the haters, and it really does not matter what tattoo you get when you are already covered…..

Based off of the insane number of the same searches, some reworded backwards and then forward, I went ahead and changed some categories around so that it would be easier to search through hundreds of posts and pictures without getting the double up on some of the categories.

Hope it works! If anything looks out of place, let me know, and if anything is hard to search for please give me a heads up as well.

Dropped off BRN number 2, but prototype number 1 last night, tonight we put it in and test it out.

Hope it does not break and end up with the fail category.

Also, I may end up needing others to test these out.
