Well after a year or so of it just sitting and me scratching my head about what the hell I should do with this beautiful moped, I got a wonderful surprise in my inbox from a man named Bjorn.

He gave me hope ! ( unlike Obama )

Bjorn detailed his tear down and rebuild years ago and I had stumbled upon his web page late in the night.

So here is to me working on the MONZA again and hoping that one little adjustment that I had foolishly overlooked will work .

Wish me luck

Oh, and you should visit his web blog page :

Well here she is with the motomatic pipe.

Preliminary results indicate this pipe will attack any hill in Seattle, even with the 36 rear sprocket. I fear putting a larger one on there because I think it will just wheelie everywhere.

Take off is flawless, mid range is out of control, and the powerband seems to be the whole range of the pipe.

Only modification I had to do is drill a new hole in the exhaust mounting flange on the frame. Other than that, just bolt on and rip. ( on a properly tuned moped that is )

And the pedals clear :)

Thanks Nate and Rafter <3

Oh, I have renamed this pipe the "Seattle Destroyer" as it will take any hill while accelerating.

. . MOTOMATIC . .

Well, after a bit of a wait its finally here !

Custom Motomatic destroyer pipe, hand built by nate of motomatic and added goodness.

Low end – High end pipe <3

Looks sexy !

Reviews, comparisons to at least 2 other “high end” pipes ( Homoet 6p and Simonnini ), video and GPS numbers to follow.

. . Progress . .

Race bike progress made today !

Thanks to some parts arriving :

CR80 Aluminum front wheel with disk brake :

D.I.D Aluminum outer, 17 x 1.40 ( Puch is 17 x 1.30, so the 17 inch moped tubes and tires will work )

Exciting ! !

Next item was a 08 Tomos hydraulic disc brake front end, but how would this fit on the Motobecane frame?

framemoby

Well, lets check the race on the Tomos front forks :

tomoscups

And lets take the Motobecane front forks off and have a look ……. minus the bearings

bottomrace

Looks like it will snug up nicely with the STOCK MOTOBECANE BEARING CUPS and the TOMOS STOCK RACE that is on the forks already ! With this out of the way, we can re-pack the bearing cups with grease and clean off the old nasty bearings from the Motobecane.

Ok, lets put the front forks on the frame and see how it looks

together

Looks ok, I guess ……

time to put new grease and our freshly cleaned bearings on the top cup

headbearings

Tomos washers/dust shield/securing nut

Top of the triple tree and washer/nut

Wow, that was about the easiest thing I have done to a moped in a while, stoked !

Now I just need to adjust the height of the forks when the rear is fabricated onto the frame ( I am not using the stock Motobecane rear as this will be my race bike for atwater ) Tomos forks are kinda high right now and I will need to adjust the stance when the frame is fully done.

Right now it is Barry ( my kitty ) approved ! :) Good thing, as he likes to disapprove of everything, grumpy pants, although he did help this time with the instal

Plus he is just so f-ing cute <3

. . Super FAIL . .

Here are some of the documented FAIL’S that I have had this year and findings from said fail…..

Parma 50cc :

Piston and ring gone, no damage to the cylinder

100_0865

Polini piston . . . 20 Miles, more to be described later

100_0877

Ritto crankshaft . . . 3 years of high rpm polini e50 carnage ! Are the needle bearings supposed to be at that angle ? Answer = NO This is the cause of damage to said piston above

100_0876

Polini 64cc Cause, failing ritto crankshaft needle bearings

100_0880

Stock e50 high comp head . . Ritto crank strikes again grrrrrrr

100_0878

3 year old polini, widened exhaust port. Cause = 3 year old piston ring expanding to far and catching the front of the exhaust port

100_0881

K-Star 70cc kit One kick, ZERO miles Ritto Crank ( did I mention that it is very hard to see those bearings on the big end of the rod? ) I did some extreme checking of engine components after all this bullshit happened

100_0882

Clutches galore ! ! ! All within one month, 2 from Reno rally ! Smeared or destroyed pads and one bent clutch bell later . . . thanks Gilaradoni 74cc Puch !

There are more pictures to come of failed projects and over worked parts, dont you worry !

So after all the FAIL in the last couple months, I decided to finally build the race bike……

I think this will be competitive in atwater, maybe?

Introducing the short lived polini maxi.

Short lived, because my Ritto crank decided to let loose the needle bearings on the big end of the rod 20 miles into the break in :/

Granted the crank was 4 years old, it took this out *sad face*

. . . Updates . . .

Nothing has been going on lately, just trying to get out of my head and focus on the tasks at hand.

Soon to come…

Athena 50cc update ( made intake and spacers and is ready to begin the squish band clearance process )

I got a shit load of parts from treats, so look out for another rad magnum build/update

Can you say reworked polini kit ( super ported and things ), Malossi, hpi, simonninnnnno, paint, etc…..

And the project which I never thought would be take soooo long to start… Super Malossi Moby water beast.

Stay tuned

Rebuild in 3.5 hours

Lets put this thing together and get it running!

EBR MAXI front forks.

These require you to take the bottom race off of the stock MKII forks in order to use them.

100_0710100_0711100_0712

So with that done, It was time to repack/grease the bearings in the headset, and for that matter the wheels while I have the grease out !

Also note that I changed the tires and tubes to kenda tubes and Hutchison GP1 tires.

100_0717100_0718100_0719100_0721

Now attention to the rear end of this thing..

Re-pack/grease the bearings, Changeover the shocks to MAXI 300mm shocks, New tube/Tire ( Same as the front )

100_0723100_0724100_0725

Finally, MINI MAGNUM, minus engine of course :p

Yes, thats a MAXI in the back as reference to see how tiny this thing is…..

100_0727
100_0728100_0729

Up next…..

Changing that pesky 40T rear sprocket to a 45T

100_0730100_0731

Chains, Polini E50, Cables, Controls, Grips, ETC…..

100_0732100_0733100_0734100_0735

ALL DONE !!!!
